The ramblings of a makeup artist

Queens Park, Perth, WA March 2016

With plans to create a website and really kick things off on social media I decided collaborating with some other Perth creatives to show case our talent was a bit of a no brainer!

A friend of mine Paula and the creative master mind behind Hairstyles by Paula caught up for a cuppa and had a chat to see if we could make this happen. Many cuppas later and our creative ideas flowing we managed to reign ourselves in and decided on a bridal styled shoot.

So we went away, let our imagination run away with all things bridal and said lets catch up the following weekend to create a mood board for the shoot. Cue the kettle been boiled again, we caught up and finalised the two looks we wanted to create. I had previously spoken with Taylor from Taylor Mitchell Photography and really liked her imagination and creative ideas so it was only natural I reached out to her to see if she wanted to come on board and lucky for us she did.

Next our two models Taylor McLaughlin and Kristie McPherson quickly jumped on board. So the date was set, venue chosen, dresses organised and time to get creative.

For Taylor, Paula and I wanted to create a classic 1940’s bridal look. This is a personal favourite of mine – red lips, crisp clean wing with flawless skin. It was also my wedding day makeup look. To compliment the makeup Paula created the old Hollywood glamour with pin tuck curls. Taylor’s effortless and timeless beauty suited this look perfectly.

For Kristie we wanted to create a bridal look that enhances a woman’s natural beauty. And what a beauty Kristie is. To create this look we went for dewy skin, a smokey brown eye and nude lip. Paula created a beautiful bridal up style.

Our venue was Queen’s Park in East Perth. From here we took Taylor Mitchell’s lead. What an eye for detail this woman has as she captured stunning shot after shot. The magic really begun as the afternoon sun began to set. This was also a welcome relief as it was a blistering hot 39 degrees that day!

For my first collaboration I couldn’t have hoped for a better day. I went home exhausted but over the moon with the beautiful images we created. Hope you enjoy the images x
